About us

Welcome!

City of Bradford Pipe Band, established in 1914 is a community pipe band made up of volunteers of all ages from across Yorkshire and Lancashire.  The band is comprised of three sections Bagpipes, Drums and Highland dancers.  New members, experienced players/dancers or beginners are welcome to join us, have a look at our contact page for ways to get in touch. Free tuition is provided to learners and uniforms/instruments are provided for anyone playing in the band.

The Band takes bookings throughout the year and regularly performs in Gala’s, Street processions, Military functions and Weddings, in fact pretty much any engagement!  A full band, mini band or an individual performer can be provided to suit your requirements, head to our contact page to tell us about your event.

The Band wears Hunting Stewart tartan in both ‘Full No. 1 Highland Dress’ and ‘Day Dress’, dependent on the type of function or weather conditions. The uniform (especially the No.1 Dress Uniform) plays a large part in the expectations and spectacle of a Pipe Band, so a large part of the Band’s funds during each year is expended against the maintenance and renewal of equipment.
Properly cleaned and cared for the uniform items can last several years before requiring replacement. The instrument consumables, however, (reeds, drum heads, etc.) rarely last as long.

The governing body is an elected committee from current serving members and upkeep of a Band such as ours requires a great deal of dedication and hard work to earn enough just to keep going. Looking good and playing well are mutually-supportive considerations in the case of any parade-style Band.

Since it’s formation the Band has been entirely self-funded through engagement fees, member subscriptions and donations.  An easy way to donate is through the charity shopping fundraising site: easyfundraising.org.uk.  Any online shopping you do with a participating retailer via this link ends up with a small donation to the band. We also accept PayPal donations, just click on the button at the bottom of this page.
