In 2014, to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of our band’s formation we held a party for current and former members, friends, families, fellow pipers and drummers from across the country and what a party it was! The afternoon was spent reflecting on the last century, remembering past colleagues, thanking our long standing band members and looking to the future too. Then it was party time, dancing ’till the wee hours to music from the excellent ceilidh band Frigga.
The event also included visits first from the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, Mrs Virginia Lloyd, in her last official engagement in the role and later the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain. It was a great honour and a big boost to the band to know our local officials recognise the importance of marking such a milestone in a local organisation’s history.
Here’s the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain pictured with some of our younger members cutting the celebration cake kindly donated by Country Style Foods, a big thanks to them for this wonderful gift.
We must also thank the individuals and other local businesses including Morrisons at Idle, Asda Living at Forster Square, The Salon at Idle, Kiplings restaurant at Greengates and Pippo’s restaurant also at Greengates who donated raffle prizes helping us raise £270 on the night towards band funds. It is generous support like this which has helped us reach the centenary.
We’ll leave you with a few photos from the evening, thanks to all who came, it was great to see you all and we hope to see you all again soon.
