About Us

Welcome!

City of Bradford Pipe Band is the longest‑standing pipe band in West Yorkshire. We were originally formed in 1914 by the Bradford Volunteer Force as a Bugle and Drum Band. Bagpipes were introduced in 1917, and we have carried forward the tradition ever since.

Historically, the Band has been made up of three sections — Bagpipes, Drums and Highland Dancers (there is currently no Dance Team) — with an elected committee of serving members as its governing body.

We’re a community of volunteers with a shared love of Scottish music, committed to preserving and celebrating our heritage whilst proudly representing Bradford.

Hiring the Band

We take bookings throughout the year and perform at local events such as galas, parades and civic ceremonies. We play with pride and passion, and can offer a varied programme to suit any occasion, with the option of a full band, mini band or soloist performer as required.

Support Us

Since our formation, we have been entirely self‑funded through engagement fees, member subscriptions and donations. A large part of the Band’s funds each year is used for the maintenance and renewal of uniform and equipment.

An easy way to donate is through the charity shopping fundraising site easyfundraising.org.uk any online shopping you do with a participating retailer via this link results in a small donation to the Band. We also accept PayPal donations; just click on the donate button below.

Uniform & Tradition

Uniform plays a large part in the expectations and spectacle of a pipe band. The Band wears Hunting Stewart tartan and can appear in either Full No. 1 Highland Dress or Day Dress, depending on the type of function or weather conditions.
